Idlewood Elementary (5/22/08)

Our visit to Idlewood Elementary was quite interesting and fascinating. It actually shocked me to ride into such a nice neighborhood.  I had imagined, since we were working with urban schools, it would  be in a not quite so “nice” area. I realized that ”urban school”  does not mean “bad”. It could be a high needs school.  I observed that the majority of the school’s population were minority students.  The students were very friendly and appeared to be eager to learn.  They seemed as if they were excited to be there.  I really enjoyed this experience.  It has made me even more excited about teaching.  We were also given a lot of advice from some members of past cohorts on how to survive this rigorous program.  I really appreciated this whole experience.  It was definitely an eye-opener for me.
